| Welcome PARLEY WIN ALL DORSET FINAL TO CLINCH SECOND TITLE IN
THREE YEARS
Parley Sports won the NatWest
Indoor Under-16 Championships for the second time in three seasons when
they beat arch rivals Bournemouth by two-wickets with an over of their
all-Dorset Rose Bowl final to spare.
Jack Rowett was man-of-the-match,
hitting an unbeaten 31 after taking 2-19 with the ball as Parley
overcame Bournemouth's modest 114.
Ryan Scott (40) and Jake Hurley (23)
gave Bournemouth a sound start, putting on 46 in five overs but, George
Russell (32) apart, the Chapel Gate youngsters got stuck as Parley
bowled a disciplined line.
They took far too long in getting Scott
back to the crease and, as a result of some indisciplined bowling, were
always struggling to save the match.
Parley, who had scrambled a penultimate
ball semi-final win over Spin Cricket, raced to 44-0 in just three
overs and mnever really looked back.
Rowett underpinned the innings, but
Bournemouth conceded 39 wides and ten no-balls to make the task
easier. They did lose four wickets - Scott bowling a tidy 1-16
spell - before Rowett returned to the crease to see his side home.
Spin Cricket made Parley work hard for
their semi-final win after Jack Sennett (28), Leon Reeve (26) and Ben
Moran-Wardle (15) helped post 118-3.
Once again, Rowett (26) led from the
front, enjoying a solid start with Saul Harris (25) before Ollie
Green's unbeaten 20 nudged Parley across the line.
Bournemouth, who had suffered only one
defeat in topping the 10-match table, were too strong for South Wilts
in the other semi-final.
Hurley (29), Greg Thew (25) and Russell
(24) got the bulk of their 127-4, after which South Wilts were
dismissed for 82 - Marc Burton (22) and Luke Hannaford (20) - with
Hurley taking 2-13.
Welcome
to the website of the NatWest Under-16 Indoor six-a-side Cricket
League, which is now in its eighth winter season at the Hampshire Rose
Bowl. This invitation Sunday evening competition, formed in January
2001 when the Rose Bowl was opened, comprises junior sides from the
bulk of the leading recreational clubs in the region, in addition to
district sides from the New Forest and South East Hants. Most of the
leading young players from Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight and
Wiltshire play in the competition. Matches are played on a round-robin
basis at 6, 7 and 8 o'clock each Sunday evening throughout the winter
months, with the top four sides in the "league" playing off for the
NatWest Trophy in April. Games are 12-overs per side and played in accordance with
ECB playing regulations. The league is indebted to NatWest and to the Lord's Taverners' Foundation for their continued support, and to Steve Malone and Roger Forder, who umpire our matches throughout the winter months. Spectators are most welcome to come to the Rose Bowl on Sunday evenings - it's free too ! There are excellent spectator facilities and, fingers crossed, a licensed bar will be open. |
